Georgia HB1105, known as the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, is a state law designed to enhance tracking and reporting of foreign-born inmates in Georgia’s penal institutions. Effective May 1, 2024, it amends Title 42 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, requiring sheriffs and jailers to document and report specific details about inmates’ immigration status. This includes the number of inmates booked, inquiries made to the Law Enforcement Support Center (LESC), responses received, and instances where inmates are identified as illegal aliens, along with any immigration detainers issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (USDHS). The attached Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office First Quarterly Jail Report for 2024 reflects compliance with this law, providing data for October through December, as mandated under O.C.G.A. § 42-4-16(a)(1) through (5), and certifying adherence to related notification requirements under O.C.G.A. § 42-4-14.
